With it being the 40th anniversary of the moon landing, I will start off my first halp thread with earth and space.
There are only 8 planets although many argue that there are 9. But scientists concluded that Pluto is to small to be classed as a planet. So there are officially only 8.
The planets in order from closest to the sun are:
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
It can be hard to remember the planets. But you can create a mneumonic to remember them. There are many good ones out there for you to use.
A solar eclipse is when the moon goes in between the earth and the sun blocking out the sunlight that earth recieves. It usually only lasts a few minutes and it only happens during the day.
A lunar eclipse is when the earth goes in between the sun and moon. This stops the sunlight from getting to the moon and reflecting back to earth. This means that at night sometimes there isn't a moon. A lunar eclipse only happens at night.
It is believed that Venus was once like Earth was today. It is believed that it may of had life on it and, more importantly water. It is also believed that earth will one day be like Venus hot, no water, no life and constant hurricanes.
Generally the further the planet from the sun the colder it gets except in the case of Venus. Venus is further away from the Sun but it is hotter than Mercury because of the carbon dioxide the suns rays get trapped on the planet.
A light year is the distance travelled by light in one year.
If you feel that i have left anything let me know and i will add it. I have only put down the basics.
